Long Island Men's Soccer (LIMS) is an established recreational league that celebrates the spirit and passion for soccer among adults. Since the mid-70s, we have been fostering a community where men over 30 from Nassau and Suffolk counties can enjoy the beautiful game.

Recognizing the importance of family time, especially on weekends, all our league matches are thoughtfully scheduled for Sunday evenings between 5:30 and 7:30 PM. This timing is considerate of your Sunday traditions, whether they involve religious obligations, family breakfasts or brunches, dinners, or coaching little-league games. Sunday evenings are reserved for your ‘soccer time’—a perfect opportunity to alleviate the stress of the past workweek, bond with teammates, and recharge before the start of a new week.

A Moment of Silence for 9/11

Before the opening whistle of our Fall 2026 season, both squads and the match officials gathered along the halfway line for a moment of silence — honoring the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and the families, first responders and Long Island neighbors who still carry that day with them.

Long Island Men’s Soccer has been part of this island since the mid-70s, and for many of our members this one is personal. Standing together at midfield, shoulder to shoulder before a ball was kicked, was the right way to open a season built on community and respect.

Board Members and Staff

Syl Cangero

President

Syl Cangero has served as the manager and coach of the North Shore Vikings in the LIMS league for the past 15 years, a position he shares with Co-Manager Dino Marra. An Adelphi University alumnus, Mr. Cangero attended on a full academic and sports scholarship. As a formidable member of the Adelphi Soccer team, he notably played against the N.Y. Cosmos in an exhibition match where he was tasked with marking the legendary Pelé. After graduating, Mr. Cangero embarked on an extensive marketing career, ascending from Marketing Manager to Vice-President of Marketing, and eventually becoming President of a direct-mail company. Post-retirement, he was called upon to assist at a family-owned Long Island Community Bank, where he currently serves as a Bank Officer. Having resided in Bayville for three decades, Syl recently moved to Glen Cove. His presence extends beyond New York, with homes in North Carolina, Florida, and Tuscany, Italy.

Gordon Barr

Vice President

Gordon has been involved with the Long Island Mens Soccer League since 1983. He has been the manager of the Syosset Raiders Mens Team for the past several decades. Gordon was also greatly involved in the advancement of Youth soccer on Long Island as one of the founders of the Syosset Soccer Club in 1976 which grew to exceed more than 1,000 players participating annually.

He served as a Youth Coach and Board Member in the Club for more than 20 years. After retirement from his work career Gordon became a certified referee and is currently active officiating Youth League and School soccer games.

Gregory Siragusa

Treasurer

Gregory Siragusa has been the bedrock of the Long Island Men's Soccer (LIMS) finances, dedicating 20 of the past 21 years to the role of Treasurer. His longstanding commitment extends beyond the ledger; he has been a vital part of the West Islip Panthers as both a player and manager since 1994, celebrating over three decades with the team and club. Residing in West Islip, Greg has recently transitioned to semi-retirement following a distinguished 42-year career in the construction cost sector for a prominent New York utility company. Even in semi-retirement, his expertise is still sought after, as he continues to work for them on a part-time basis, balancing his professional acumen with his passion for soccer.

Salvatore Pulice

League Registrar

A lifelong contributor to the East Meadow Soccer Club, Salvatore Pulice's roles have evolved from player to coach. He now manages the East Meadow Tigers, a team of coaches and trainers—some of whom he guided in their youth or high school teams. In addition to his responsibilities with the league, Salvatore coaches at MacArthur High School, bringing full circle his commitment to fostering soccer talent.

Eric Steinzor

Secretary

A resident of Dix Hills for 35 years and the "Head Cluck" at Continental Tape Printers, Eric Steinzor's soccer journey is one of dedication and leadership. A high school varsity player for four years and a captain in his junior and senior years, he was recognized with All County and All League selections. His collegiate soccer career included playing for Division 1 teams at Philadelphia Textile and St. John's University. His competitive spirit took him to the Empire State Games and to São Paulo, Brazil, with the US Maccabi Soccer team in 1985, where he earned a silver medal. Today, he continues to be an active player in the sport. As the Head Coach of the Men's over 30 Dix Hills Apaches Soccer team, and managing several indoor and tournament teams, Eric embodies the ethos, “It’s not about how good you are, it’s about how well you play with others.

Pedram Jahangiri,

Chief Technology Officer (CTO)

Pedram (also known as Peter) lifelong passion for soccer is as dynamic as his career in technology. From the playgrounds of primary school to the competitive fields of Iowa State University, his journey in soccer has been marked by a rare distinction, not only did he excel on the university team but he also continued to distinguish himself as a graduate student athlete. With a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Pedram has carved out a formidable niche in the Cloud, IT, AI/ML, GenAI and Energy sectors over the past 15 years. At the heart of his professional excellence is a commitment to teamwork, a value deeply rooted in his soccer experience. As a dedicated player with the North Shore Vikings for more than 7 years, Pedram embodies the spirit of collaboration and strategy that he brings to his role in LIMS league.

What is LIMS?

LIMS (Long Island Men's Soccer) is an over 30 men's soccer league, currently with 20 teams from various towns in Nassau and Suffolk counties.

Where are LIMS teams currently from?

Our teams hail from Amityville, Bethpage, Brentwood, Commack, Cow Harbor, Dix Hills, E. Meadow, E. Northport, Garden City, Hicksville, Island Trees, Merrick, N. Babylon, N. Shore (Glen Head), Rosedale, Syosset, and W. Islip.

What is the LIMS schedule of games?

LIMS plays 8 games in the spring (April-June) and 8 games in the fall (September – November). There are no playoffs, as we classify the league as friendly and non-competitive.

Are LIMS games 11 v 11 with referees?

Yes, all games are 11 v 11 with assigned referees. Each team has 4 home and 4 away games per half season, and pays the referee fee for home games at the time of the game. All FIFA rules apply, with unlimited substitutions and no slide tackling.

When are league games played?

Games are played on Sundays in the late afternoon or early evening.

What type of fields are used for games?

LIMS games are primarily played on artificial turf fields, though some games may take place on natural grass fields.

Can I join a team?

Yes, you can join an existing team if they have room on their roster and are looking for new players.

Can I register a new team?

Yes, LIMS is currently seeking new teams to join. Requirements include a full squad of players (min. 20, max. 30), and a home field outdoors. LIMS will provide an insurance certificate for field permits.

When can I register a new team, and what is the cost?

Registration is open for the spring 2025 season. The full-year registration is $400, with a one-time $125 bond, refunded if the team leaves the league in good standing.

Do LIMS teams practice or play indoors?

Practice schedules and indoor or off-season play are managed by individual team managers and are outside of LIMS organization oversight.

Yes, LIMS holds 9 regular meetings annually on the third Tuesday of each month, except January, February, and July.

Does the league have rules and regulations?

Yes, LIMS has bylaws, which include fines for game and administrative penalties (e.g., missed meetings).

Does the league champion fair play and sportsmanship?
